A Second Pressing Never Hurts a Transfer Image on Garments

Sometimes, when we apply a t-shirt transfer to a garment, we may not get our desired results. The image may distort on the garment due to the tension of the paper when peeling. We may have a transfer that leaves a heavy "hand" or feel on the garment or may not have a transfer that stretches properly. When using a "self-weeding" paper, we may get excess emulsion on the garment.

Many of these issues can be corrected by using a parchment sheet and pressing our garment a second time.

Recommended Materials: Silicone Sheet or Non-Stick Parchment Sheet
Procedure: Place your imaged garment back on your heat press. Cover the exposed design with a Silicone Sheet or Non-Stick Parchment sheet. Press at the same temperature and pressure for your transfer paper, but reduce the time in the press by 50% of application time. Allow sheet to cool for a few seconds before removing from the garment.

Some advantages of using silicone sheets for a second press are they are inexpensive, usually about $0.15 to $0.30 per sheet, and can be reused. Second Press with a silicone sheet adds durability by helping to "drive" the emulsion of the transfer into the fabric. It adds softness by matting the emulsion layer and also adds flexibility by allowing you to reheat and gently stretch the garment, allowing you to "reshape" an image on a garment that distorted due to paper tension. Second Press, with a silicone sheet, can correct "excess emulsion" issues with self-weeding papers by making the excess "less visible".
