Patch Sublimation Instructions for LCP421W

Hover transfer under open heat press for 10 seconds to dry excess moisture.

1. Cover the bottom table of the press with a sheet of Teflon.
2. Secure transfer to the patch using ProSpray.
5. Place substrate face up, with attached transfer face down, on top of protective paper on bottom table.
6. Place a piece of Nomex Felt under the image area to level it up for even contact with the Heat Platen.
7. Top with protective paper and press according to time, temperature, and pressure above.

Application notes: If adhering patches to textiles, sticky lint roll the entire area of the textile that will come into contact with the heat platen. Then pre-heat the area where the patch will be applied for 5 seconds at 400 degrees-F using medium pressure. Be sure to cover the textile with protective paper. Discard this sheet after pre-pressing is completed. For best results, the textile should be washed before applying the patch.

Press dwell time for adhering the patch will vary by the fiber content and weight of the textile. The typical dwell time range is between 14-20 seconds. If you are unsure of the necessary dwell time, start by pressing with heavy pressure for 14 seconds. Then allow the patch to cool. Try to peel the edges of the patch. If they are secure then you are done. If not, repress for an additional 10 seconds. If the edges remain unsecured then you will have to use Liquid Stitch fabric glue (available at most fabric, craft or department stores) to complete the adhesion of the patch to the textile.


It is also an option to use a household iron on the patches. Set the temperature of the iron to 400°-F. This is usually the "Polyester" setting or a bit down from the highest temperature available. Press from the middle of the patch outward toward the edges. The pressing time is usually a minute. After this period of time, check the edges of the patch to see if this area is adhered to the substrate. If so, you will now need to press the patch from the backside for another minute.

Some substrates may require more or less time to allow adherence of the patch. Test the edge of your first patch by slightly peeling it up from the substrate while it is hot. Be careful not to burn yourself!

Should glue on patch fail to hold, a few drops of Liquid Stitch® Glue can help re-adhere.

It is important that very heavy and even pressure is applied to the patch and that your press is calibrated to 400°F. Remember to position the patch as close as possible to the center of the heat platen to ensure even pressure.

The Teflon sheet may have dye on it after transfer. You will need to remove it with readily available cleaners, such as Goof Off, Goo Gone, denatured alcohol or Simple Green. You also can reverse sublimate to a blank protective sheet. Just place the sheet over the dye and press for about one minute at 400°F. Repeat with a fresh protective sheet until all dye has been transferred from the Teflon.
